Vermont Farm Bureau - Agricultural Education
Vermont Farm Bureau works as a partner in Vermont Ag in the Classroom. We subscribe to the parners’ vision that Agriculture is fundamental to life. Vermont Agriculture In The Classroom creates educational networks that promote farms, food production, nutrition and resource management in our communities. The mission of Vermont Agriculture in the Classroom is to:

To increase awareness and understanding of our regional food system, including food production, consumption, distribution, natural resource use and waste management.

To highlight the many innovative career opportunities in all areas of the agriculture and forestry industries. To build an appreciation of the historical, cultural, economic, environmental, and scientific importance of agriculture to the quality of life in Vermont and our society.

And to use agriculture education as a meaningful vehicle to connect students with their agricultural heritage while learning basic skills and meeting national and state education standards.

In 2004 Vermont Farm Bureau through its’ educational foundation, Vermont Foundation for Agriculture, Inc., designed an Ag-Tivity Book funded initially by the Ronald MacDonald House Charities and on a continuing basis by your contributions to the Vermont Foundation for Agriculture. More than 30,000 Ag-Tivity books have been distributed throughout Vermont’s schools and the Foundation’s agricultural “Learning Barns”. The Ag-Tivity book is filled with pictures to color, puzzles to solve and fun facts about Vermont agriculture. Copies are $1.00 each and are available through the Foundation at 802-434-5646. An updated version will be available beginning in the Summer of 2009.

Other items available through the Foundation include the Dairy and Maple Curriculum for teachers, a “Maple Page” published by the “Partners in Agricultural Education” of the Foundation, and other items for classroom distribution geared primarily for elementary grades. .
